Listening to Trees
(Work in Progress)
Trees don't 'speak' and still we listen. Is that not human nature? To meet the world with imagination and wonder; the great and simple inheritances of being born human.
In the past couple of years, Pankaj and I met trees across hill and junglescapes. The ones dead and the ones dying. Trees ancient and the ones still breaking out from their shells. Grandfather trees, survivor trees, remembrance trees, trees sacred and trees that heal. Some we have met in root, heartwood and shade, while some we have met in words alone....and we have decided. We have decided for this to come to mean something. For these encounters to become the collective expression of those inheritances.
This is for you if you have stood under an old tree and felt comforted. If beneath trees you have found shelter and meaning. If you have mourned one. If you have called one your own. If you have belonged to one. If one has called your name. This is for you, if you have listened.
Our next story is about the human experience of trees. We will call it 'Listening To Trees'.
